Highlights from the 6th Annual Sun and Truth 5k
The 6th Annual Sun and Truth 5K Charity Race brought together a record-breaking 180 runners and raised $29,200 for charity, supporting the LCCHS Sonic Howl Continuing Education Bursary and other meaningful causes chosen by our race community.
On May 3, The Sun and Truth Foundation welcomed runners from all walks of life to Riverside Park in LaSalle for the 6th Annual Sun and Truth 5K Charity Race. Each year, we gather to run for causes close to our hearts and to strengthen our commitment to the community. Over time, the event has continued to grow, and this year we were proud to welcome a record-breaking 180 participants, including 120 adults and 60 children.
This year, we announced our ongoing commitment to raising funds for the LCCHS Sonic Howl Continuing Education Bursary. Graduating members of the Sonic Howl team who have demonstrated exemplary leadership, dedication, and commitment to their team will be awarded scholarships during their convocation. Through the collective efforts of donors and the Sun and Truth Foundation, we raised $16,700 for the bursary.
In keeping with tradition, the Foundation also made donations on behalf of the podium finishers in both the 1.2K and 5K races, awarding $500 to each winner’s charity of choice. Additional donations were also made on behalf of runners whose names were drawn at random. With an additional $12,500 given to charity, a total of $29,200 was awarded, making the 6th Annual Sun and Truth 5K our most impactful race to date.
This year, we were grateful to welcome the charitable contributions of our valued partners, whose generosity helped make the event such a success.
Lufa Farms donated 23 gallons of freshly squeezed orange juice to keep our racers refreshed. Their generosity did not stop there; they also set up a mini farmers' market featuring produce grown right here in the city. We are deeply grateful for Lufa Farms’ presence and unwavering support.
We also welcomed a new partnership with Ciele Athletics, which graciously donated caps for us to award to podium finishers and raffle winners. Finally, we would like to thank Brasserie des Rapides, a local favourite, for donating several boxes of pizza; St-Viateur Bagel for providing delicious bagels; and Näak for supplying their famous waffles, which helped keep our runners energized throughout the race. Without the generosity of our partners, this event would not have been possible.
Thank you to all of the volunteers, runners, partners, and supporters who continue to make this such a meaningful and anticipated community event. We look forward to welcoming everyone back next year for the 7th Annual Sun and Truth 5K Charity Race.
